I just got back from Italy and am currently getting back into the swing of America. I didnt think I'd ever miss sweat pants, strict street laws, or pick up trucks so much in my life! However I loved the entirety of the trip. In any sense if Italy brought replenishment and improvement to my art going back to Wisconsin has spun it back to utter normalcy. I did some drawing of saddles and trees but the spark that I was riding in finding inspiration everywhere has officially died. back to the barn I guess for ideas. Happy summer :)

I visited the Academia in Florence, Italy. There arent many artist opportunities for it as it is dedicated to some of the greatest artists of the Renaissance. Included in the permanent exhibits are Michelangelo's David, and some of his later and final works. As for temporary ones there is a massive one of plaster copies of hundreds of busts, tomb statues, and figures.

It is one of the few air conditioned through galleries I visited in the city and through Rome. The building is set up so almost all ways will lead to the statue of David standing upon a six foot tall stand and a glass wall.It is really open and my dad and I were able to get right up and view everything there without lines or waiting. Overall it was my favorite place we visited museum wise.

This was a site with a lot of clear cut information for students in high school who wanted to pursue an art career. I learned about many different grant and internship programs. Thirdly I learned about what exhibits and galleries may are will soon be coming.

This was a site that really showed just how many options artists have. From help wanted postings to scholarship info to inspirational designs it's set up in a way that helps artists gain exposure. I learned that there are many other opportunities for artists than just what is shown on the surface. In addition I learned about how art is so easily mingled with many aspects of everyday living and how it can be used in many forms.

 I selected this image because the forest is deeply important for me and in addition it was painted in a way that bears similarity to how I approach landscapes, so in a sense I was drawn to its familiarity.

I selected this one because of the sharp contrast of the snowy white owl and the black tips of its feathers. It created an effect that gave me ideas for future works.

This site was one with the overview of the Scholastic art and writing awards. On the website I learned about how much scholarship money is available and of its major involvement in the art community of teen artists. In addition I learned about how broad the program was.

I chose these because both are similar to what I normally do. The drawing is of  an animal that is highly textured and realistic and the photograph is very dramatically lit to show focus on the eyes.

I left my mission trip early to catch a plane to Italy. While there I visited many different locations that reverted me to my regular style of drawing but that also allowed me to further explore architectural drawing as there was no space left untouched in so much of that country. I took tons of pictures and did much of my drawings off of those as we were so busy during the day that drawing from images back at the hotel that night was far easier. I drew scenes from the cliffs of the Ciquce Terra  area, a bed frame in Florence, ancient structures in Rome, the view from the hotel Genoa.

At this point I feel like I'm back to the basics, enjoying the new found summer granted freedom is showing up in drawings far more simpler than I normally produce, however it's a good base line as so often my drawings are showing more media changes over style and compositional alterations. I was on a mission trip and drew mostly items I saw around the work or the building we were staying in (paint rollers, playing card scenes, gutters that hadnt been cleaned in 10+ years, etc).
